Ever since the launch of whats app the mode of communication has completely changed. There were a few other apps in the market prior to whats app like Nimbuzz, Viber etc; however, they did not see success as much as whats app has seen.

One of the possible reason other apps could not survive in the market is that smartphone was just newly launched then. Not many people had access to these apps as they were still using a simple mobile phone like Nokia , Motorola or other popular brands at that time. The other reason could be unavailibility of internet access back then. Mobile phones where widely used to make calls and Short text message services i.e SMS. Internet services were expensive and had not penetrated the remote and small towns.

In the early 2010 Smartphones replaced the traditional Cell phones and internet penerated the remotest parts of the world. That is the time when whatsapp came into being and gradually became the popular chatting app. The app was available in andriod and apple market simultaneously. It was free of cost and required internet connection only. The number of messages per person or the text length had no restrictions. Features like Display picture and status messages made it more fun to use. It not allowed people to communicate with each other but it also gave a platform to showcase your personal photographs and your thoughts in the Display picture and status area. This was the first time people could easily share personal photos and videos with each other.

Thus it slowly became one of the favourite messanging app. Every year new features are added to the app which is making it more fun and user friendly. Features like group messaging and PDF file sharing makes it a most prefered app not only for personal use but it has found a place in corporates as well. It has made now easier for a group leader to convey messages and files to the staff within no time. Somehow it helps the productivity of the team.

We live in an era where technology is growing at a very fast pace than one could ever imagine. It certainly has made a difference in our lives; however, there are many disadvantages of relying on technology. In my next blog we will see the threats of using mobile apps.Till then stay tuned to my blog.
